Music Is Everything

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Music is Everything. It makes you feel every emotion in the book, from inspiration, sadness, happiness and so many more. When I listen to music I'm usually looking for an escape my life cannot provide. It's my place i go to, to not feel alone. I love sad songs for that reason and heart-break songs. They make me feel like I'm not alone in feeling that way and it gives me strength to rise up another day to take on this gigantic challenge we call life.

Being a songwriter has absolutely given me a whole new appreciation for music. It's made me see how vulnerable and beautiful it really can be. Being up on a stage and playing in front of people is the most powerful feeling i have ever felt. You're literally controlling a room, bringing them up and down through your emotions, making them scream and jump in anger or excitement. It's also one of the most bottom-ended experiences I've ever felt. Feeling the crowd bounce energy back and forth from you all night is completely exhilarating, but I can't deny the low feeling that follows after. One minute your on top of the world, and the next your back to your regular life.

Music is almost an emotion all in it's own. It's incredible how you can feel completely alone one second but hearing someones words that seem like they just wrote it about you can make you feel apart of something bigger. It boggles my mind how powerful music can be if you open up and let it be. Like i said earlier, music is so vulnerable and can take you to your best and worst moments.

I love how we all have that one artist we feel so connected with, for me it's been all about Chris Cornell. His vocals are insane and he's probably one of the most underrated guitar players ever. I'll never forget hearing his live version of "Like A Stone" off his "Songbook" album. I felt so alone and just very down on myself. For the first time ever listening to a song performed by an established artist I cried in the breakdown after the 2nd chorus. Why I say it like that is because I've definitely cried over a couple America's Got Talent auditions that were so inspiring you couldn't help it. But his lyrics in that verse just hit me like a wall with what i was going through at that time.

"And on I read

Until the day was gone

And I sat in regret

Of all the things I've done

For all that I've blessed

And all that I've wronged

In dreams until my death

I will wander on"

To me that moment in the song is a cry for help. Sitting there in regret to all the things I've done, all that is good and all that I've done wrong, I will dream until my death, I will wander on. The wander on part hits me so hard because there was a point in my life where I hated myself, I hated everything about me. I sat in so much regret and guilt of everything I did. The good couldn't out-weigh the bad in my mind, and i felt like i was just wandering through life trying, but not succeeding to find my place.

Music is so powerful and it can really help you find your place. A world without would be absolutely devastating. It expresses freedom of speech, inspiration for others, the acceptance of being different and so much more. Music makes our world a better place, i hope someday soon I can put some of my vulnerability out there through song. But until then I really hope you guys enjoyed this article of one of my first loves, Music.
